The campsite is situated in a region between The High Pyrenees and the dryer High Plateaus of a Mediterranean type that is extending itself towards the south. In this partly accidentated calcareous mountain landscape and partly smooth mountainous region of volcanic origin, runned by several streams, exists a variety of different ecosystems.

On the very campsite itself, in spring as well as in summer one can observe a variety of extraordinary birds and butterflies - some unique for the region, and discover diverse orchids. During fall the mushroom season starts.

At a distance of 10km from Can Banal one finds the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of la Garrotxa, that gives an impressive and interesting visit both as a landscape and geological experience. Surrounded by a sub- Mediterranean vegetation, a multitude of volcanoes and craters have left their testimony from their last eruption more than 10.000 years ago. Remarkable visits like:

The basaltic wall of Castellfollit de la Roca.
The crack in the Vulcano of el Croscat, coloring the landscape with its volcanic stones in thousands of different colours.
The descends into the crater of Santa Margarita.
The show of volcanic stones in the museum of the Vulcano’s in Olot.

At a distance of 40km from Can Banal is the beginning of the High Pyrenees, with heights of almost 3000m, offering excursions such as the Nuria Valley, Capçacosta or the Ter Valley. There are organized hiking excursions to the mountains, together with a guide, starting from the campsite.

At the distance of 60km from the campsite, in the coastal region, you find natural reserves of wetland/marshland - Els Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park.
